gf Wright Construction Group, Inc. - Our Company: Philosophy/Mission

What are the advantages of Design-Build over the conventional system of engineer and general contractor?
Everybody is on the same team: We’re all in this together and we all have the same goal –to arrive at a successful project that meets or exceeds the client’s expectations for their project.

Design-Build firms are experts in their specific fields. Only qualified and licensed staff members, with industry-specific formal training and experience, are selected for the team. They have professional experience and understand pricing, sequencing and how projects go together.

Wright Construction is very sensitive to the importance of adhering to a budget and has developed a program to assure projects stay within budget. We look at developing, monitoring, and maintaining the project budget as a team effort, requiring communication and commitment throughout all phases of the project by all team members.

One entity is accountable for everything –not only the completion of a beautiful and functional project, but also the costs and the timeline of completion. Costs and scheduling are addressed from the beginning in the design phase when the same group that designs the project also builds the project. The cost of everything is taken into account early on in the process; all fees and construction costs –everything.

A Design-Build firm is involved from start to finish, which adds an inherent efficiency and allows safeguards to established. The chance for things to fall through the cracks is greatly diminished.

The Design-Build firm acts as a guide for clients to make sure that design and construction aren’t chaotic or stressful - providing guidance throughout the process to the best possible outcome. Design-Build refines a system from beginning to end and manages the chaos into orderly steps.

Design-Build construction obtains the largest amount of cost savings possible through careful option and construction analysis and value engineering prior to construction. Design-Build refines the "hard bid" process that encourages contractors to:

  • Make mistakes in estimating the project
  • Bid the least amount of overhead & profit
  • Bid the least supervision and resources to get the job done
  • Use unqualified subcontractors – Take all low numbers
  • Bid the loop-holes knowing there will be change orders

Design-Build operates under the assumption that the client is an active member of the team. Clients are guaranteeing that they get the outcome and satisfaction of their goals and often some of their future wish lists.

In Design-Build, the client retains total control over the project, and the leader of the team is there to empower them.

Through clear communication, all activities including scheduling and costs are defined early. Continued communication through the project will keep clients aware of subcontractor progress, challenges that may occur and adjustments that might need to be made to the schedule because of clients’ activities or events.

Design and construction involve managing hundreds of timelines and cost activities that need to be coordinated simultaneously. Design-Build creates opportunities for clients to study the big decisions, ask questions, and consider their options. Experienced staff will keep the project on track for better, faster and more cost-effective results. The Design-Build system is highly adaptive and responsive in the field. Big decisions can be revisited during construction.
